It might also be helpful if you haven't any experience with Java programming to take a look at things like http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ or Bruce Eckel's Thinking in Java electronic books http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/ because to get to grips with Android, it does help to understand the underlying language. Some developers I've know who tried forgot then needed to know Java before diving of into the SDK and then didn't understand it that well. The old adage of learning to walk before you run..
